2 Year Old Bareroot Seedling 6"-12"

This deciduous shrub or small tree is an asset to any disturbed landscape. Its resilience is unmatched, flourishing in less than ideal soil conditions by fixing atmospheric nitrogen in its roots, which revitalizes and enriches the soil while stabilizing loose slopes. This makes it an excellent choice for companion planting in orchards and agroforestry, as well as in the restoration of disturbed terrains.

To be clear some people hate this plant, and spend a lot of effort, money and time poisoning and slashing it back. We understand that it can act as an invasive in disturbed areas mostly in the east. Use this plant cautiously and if autumn olive is a problem in your area find something different to plant.

Autumn Olive has a long history of use and is cultivated for windbreaks, shelter belts, and erosion control. Its utility in wasteland reclamation projects is also noteworthy, showcasing its remarkable adaptability. The real highlight for us is the berries. Our seedstock comes from our friends at Hamoa Selections with a yellow fruited variety.

The shrub's berries offer a delightful combination of sweetness and tartness, making them perfect for fresh consumption or for crafting into jams, jellies, and preserves. Packed with a nutritional punch, these berries boast high levels of vitamins A, C, and E, and are abundant in ascorbic acid. With lycopene content seventeen times greater than that of ripe tomatoes, and enriched with minerals like phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, as well as iron, essential fatty acids, and bioflavonoids, they are not only nutritious but are also being explored for their potential in cancer treatment and prevention. Embrace the multifaceted benefits of the Autumn Olive for both your garden and your health.
