Additional Info
The fruit of Spartan is medium-sized, with glossy red skin and firm, white flesh. Its flavor is a delightful balance of sweetness and acidity, making it perfect for fresh eating, salads, and cider. Spartan apples also hold their shape well in baking and are excellent for sauces and preserves.
Spartan is a classic Canadian apple known for its crisp texture, bright flavor, and reliable cold-climate performance. Developed at the Summerland Research Station in BC, Spartan was one of the first apples bred from McIntosh, carrying the same aromatic sweetness with a firmer, more refreshing bite. Grafted onto M111 rootstock, this tree gains excellent vigor, drought tolerance, and adaptability to challenging soils, making it a strong, long-lived performer in northern orchards. Spartan produces clean, mid-season apples that store well and crop consistently, even in shorter growing seasons.
