Red Currant (Ribes rubra)
Red Currant (Ribes rubra)
1 Year Old Bareroot Cutting 12"-18"
Red Currants are ubiquitous in every perennial garden. They are hardy plants that produce a consistent crop of berries every year while requiring little to no care. Clusters of berries number in the 20's sometimes making for easy harvesting. Sour sweet little fruits produced by red currants have a less complex flavor than black currants which can be a bit to complex for some. Given the compact nature of the bush it makes for a very efficient use of space relative to how much fruit it can yield. One of its key attributes is the ability to produce in partial shade and prefers good afternoon shade in hot climates.
