1 Year Old Bare root seedling 10" to "14

This tree blew my mind when I came upon a mature one covered in the most fascinating looking fruits. The tropical nature of this wild broad leaved plant living in such a cold place is a lovely juxtaposition worth trying out if you live in a zone 5 or warmer. I would even guess its worth trying in a protected zone 4 if you can keep it sheltered from desiccating winds.

The Kobus Magnolia (Magnolia kobus) thrives in a variety of soil types, demonstrating adaptability and resilience in its growing conditions. It prefers well-drained soil, rich in organic matter, and can tolerate both acidic and alkaline pH levels. For optimal growth, consistent moisture is vital, yet the plant is able to withstand occasional dry spells. The Kobus Magnolia shows a preference for full sun to partial shade, requiring a minimum of four hours of direct sunlight each day to flourish and produce its characteristic blooms.

In terms of uses and benefits, the Kobus Magnolia is a valuable addition to any landscape. It is often utilized as an ornamental tree, admired for its early spring blooms and its attractive, pyramidal to rounded form. The fragrant flowers of white or sometimes pinkish hues add aesthetic appeal to gardens and outdoor spaces. Beyond its ornamental value, the Kobus Magnolia provides ecological benefits as well. It serves as a habitat and food source for various pollinators and bird species, thereby contributing to the biodiversity of its surroundings. Furthermore, its ability to adapt to urban settings makes it a suitable choice for city landscaping, aiding in the creation of green spaces within urban environments.
