Red Raspberry

We grow red raspberry for its dual harvests, vigorous growth, and exceptional cold-climate reliability. Its aggressive spreading habit makes it easy to establish a long-term, productive patch, and the steady supply of berries is ideal for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving. Beyond fruit, the plant provides a valuable leaf crop used medicinally and as a nutrient-dense farm input for teas, mulches, and compost. As a multifunctional, resilient perennial, red raspberry is one of the most useful and productive plants for northern edible landscapes and food forest systems.

Red raspberry sends up vigorous primocanes each spring, which fruit in late summer or fall and then overwinter to produce a heavy floricane crop the following summer. Underground rhizomes spread outward quickly, expanding the patch naturally. The plant produces a dense canopy of nutrient-rich leaves, which can be harvested sustainably throughout the season. After frost, canes are pruned to manage growth and support next year’s flush. The plant thrives in cold climates and rebounds strongly each year.
